ROOIBOS

ROOIBOSRooibos1

Rooibos tea is a native of South Africa and has been used in that region for centuries, though its health benefits are only just being introduced to the rest of the world. It is a rich herb with high levels of antioxidants, zinc, and alpha-hydroxy acids, which makes it especially great for skin and hair health. It is also packed with enzymes like nothofagin, aspalathin, and superoxide dismutase, which makes it an effective protection against harmful free radicals.

Rooibos contains no caffeine and very low levels of tannins therefore it is safer to take in higher quantities than regular tea.

HOW TO BREW A PERFECT CUP OF ROOIBOS TEA

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon of the dried tea leaves.
  • 1 cup of water

Method

  1. Bring water to full boil.
  2. Steep the tea in the boiling water and keep the water simmering during this time. Rooibos tea has a longer steeping time than most other teas. The shortest amount of time it should steep is 4 to 5 minutes, but studies have shown that steeping rooibos tea for 5 to 10 minutes greatly increases the amount of antioxidants and nutrients in the finished cup.
  3. Tea can be served as is, or milk and sugar or honey can be added for additional flavor. Rooibos tea also creates a wonderful iced tea that can be infused with a variety of flavors.
