WHITE TEA

White Tea

White tea is not white in color! Irrespective of its name, it is still your average looking dark colored concoction.White tea refers to tea in its raw, natural state. After picking, the leaves are simply arranged and allowed to dry, without processing.

Studies have shown that the amino acid L–theanine found in the tea plant alters the attention networks in the brain and can have demonstrable effects on the brain waves. More simply, tea can help you relax and concentrate more fully on tasks.

White tea also helps to boost memory and slow the decline of acetylcholine in the brain, which is a contributing factor in Alzheimer’s.The antioxidants and L-theanine found in the tea can prevent cell damage in the brain and increase dopamine production. Both of these factors can protect against Parkinson’s disease, or help to reduce symptoms for those who have it.

White tea is delicate. Excessive water temperature (above 170 F / 77 C) or over brewing it will cook the leaves, producing a bitter flavor. This diminishes the calming experience as well as the health benefits of the tea. The secret of getting the health benefits of white tea is to brew your tea with cooler water of about 160 F.
